This week we have teamed up with our mates at Tas Juice Press for an awesome giveaway! We have been stocking their juices since day zero, and would not have had it any other way. Not only do they taste sensational, but they are nutritious, local and sustainable - which we LOVE! We sat down with Nathan from Tas Juice Press to find out a little more about what's behind the juice!

Tell us a little about the team behind Tassie’s favourite juice company?

We’re just four mates — we never set out to start a cold-pressed juice company, we just kind of fell into it. The original owner of TJP was leasing space out of our warehouse in Cambridge and she decided she wanted to sell the business, we just thought it was too good of an opportunity to pass up! We already knew how to do everything and ran a distribution business out of the same space too; so it just made sense at the time — after a few production tweaks, a rebrand then COVID and here we are!

We can vouge for your juices tasting ah-mazing! Which juice blends tend to be the most popular?

We definitely notice shifts depending on the season. Warmer weather seems to encourage the fruitier options and when it's cooler, our veg and greens blends do really well. All that said, our fruits blend (watermelon, raspberry, lemon, apple and mint ) is popular year round — it’s easily the best seller.

We are absolutely loving your rebrand and new glass bottles! Is sustainability something you guys are passionate about?

Absolutely, plastic just didn’t sit right with us. The transition to glass has been interesting (shopping for different bottle shapes/sizes/prices/availability) but we’re really proud of the fact that we collect our empty bottles from 90% of the wholesale venues we supply now (and from our Farm Gate Market regulars) which we clean, sanitise and reuse. Sure the process takes the best part of two full days each week but as you pointed out, we are reducing our environmental impact and we’ve managed to employ someone to help out with production at a time when businesses are more likely to be cutting jobs.

As a company, what’s a simple sentence to sum up your ethos?

That’s a hard one, just one sentence? You get out what you put in! That’s true for the quality of produce we source (organic apples straight from the Huon Valley for example) and that we’ve worked really hard on the business since we took over, but we’re starting to see the benefits of that come back to us now.

Where can people find you?

We wholesale our juices to cafes, restaurants and bars all over tassie. You can find bottles to take home at Eumarrah Hobart, Unpacked in Kingston and the New Norfolk Providore — plus, we have a stall at the Farm Gate Market every Sunday

What is unique about the cold-pressed juicing technique?

Other juicing techniques that generate/use heat can destroy the lighter more delicate flavours of the fruit and veg (including healthy minerals, nutrients and enzymes). Cold-pressing is much more labour intensive but it helps preserve what you would normally loose — you can literally taste the difference!

We are so blessed to have a state that grows such amazing produce. What’s your favourite fruit or vegetable to juice for the month of spring?

Couldn’t agree more! At the moment we’ve been playing with Blood Oranges. Not only do they taste great but the colour they bring to the juice is unreal!
